Exploring Nuclear Pioneers, Psychedelics, and Supernatural Phenomena

Excerpt from *Sky Gods and the Recipe for Immortality: The hidden influence of psychoactive substances on science, society, and the supernatural.

As humanity ventured into the Nuclear Age, did we inadvertently draw intelligent beings from the cosmos? An article from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, site of Oppenheimer's nuclear weapon development, observed:

> "T.S. Eliot, a poet admired by Oppenheimer... famously posed the question: > > Do I dare > Disturb the universe? > > Oppenheimer undoubtedly did."

Eliot's poem, Journey of the Magi, which refers to Zoroastrian priests who cherished the immortal and psychoactive drink known as haoma, further elaborates:

> "Birth or Death? There was a Birth, certainly, > We had evidence and no doubt. I had seen birth and death, > But had thought they were different… > With an alien people clutching their gods. > I should be glad of another death."

From the wise Magi, who recognized the Star of Bethlehem in Christian lore, to contemporary accounts, UFOs appear particularly drawn to nuclear technology.

At the Rendlesham Air Force Base in 1980, a former UK Admiral noted (as reported by journalist Leslie Kean):

> "For over a decade, I have expressed both privately and publicly that there are only two possibilities: either unidentified crafts intruded into our airspace and landed at Rendlesham, as described, or the Deputy Commander of a nuclear-armed US Air Force base in England and numerous enlisted personnel are lying. Either scenario should certainly interest the Ministry of Defence, which has consistently denied it."

Allegedly, a recording exists of British soldiers from that time with comments like:

> "I see it, too… It’s back again… It’s coming this way… There is no doubt about it… This is weird… It looks like an eye winking at you… It almost burns your eyes… He’s coming towards us now… Now we are observing what appears to be a beam coming down to the ground… One object still hovering over Woodbridge base… beaming down."

The peculiar visual account from Rendlesham echoes the famous 1961 encounter of Betty and Barney Hill, one of the most notable UFO incidents. Barney, under hypnosis, recounted:

> "All I see are these eyes…. I’m not even afraid that they’re not connected to a body. They’re just there. They’re just up close to me, pressing against my eyes."

These remarkable descriptions bear a striking resemblance to psychedelic experiences, although no specific substances have been directly linked. However, the broader historical context suggests a psychedelic dimension within both the Rendlesham and Hill cases.

During the 1960s, the British military experimented with LSD, although such investigations officially ceased prior to the Rendlesham incident. Nevertheless, a 1968 report from the New York Times stated:

> "British military officials revealed today that they had been administering LSD to selected soldiers to assess the efficacy of the hallucinogenic drug in chemical warfare. Officially, LSD falls under our research into incapacitating agents, a Government official noted."

In 1961, Betty and Barney Hill encountered their sensational event while returning from their honeymoon in Montreal, Canada, which was then a hub for LSD-influenced MKULTRA programs led by U.S. and Canadian agencies.

The so-called Montreal Experiments at McGill University highlighted a troubling psychologist, D. Ewen Cameron:

> "Cameron administered high doses of LSD, subjected subjects to drug-induced sleep therapy for up to 65 consecutive days, and applied electroshock therapy at 75 times the usual intensity… Both Cameron and the CIA were interested in brainwashing and the ability to manipulate thought and action. The patients were never informed that they were part of a research study."

As an interracial couple, Betty and Barney Hill may have been a targeted group for dangerous and psychoactive authorities.

During the civil rights upheaval, the CIA and FBI engaged in illegal surveillance of numerous American activists, including Martin Luther King, Jr. The Hill case rivaled Roswell in significance while unveiling disturbing cultural undercurrents.

While Roswell marked the first reported UFO crash, another supernatural incident may have occurred two years earlier. At Trinity, New Mexico, where Oppenheimer first detonated the nuclear bomb, the first modern UFO crash reportedly took place.

Renowned UFO researcher Jacques Vallée compiled evidence indicating a UFO crash in Trinity, New Mexico, immediately following the first atomic detonation in modern history.

Resembling the flying vimanas depicted in the psychoactive Vedic texts referenced by Oppenheimer, UFOs seemed to swarm New Mexico after this revolutionary event. Subsequently, human technology advanced rapidly, partly due to contributions from scientists like Vallée, who co-developed the first computer messaging system.

ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet, was designed as a decentralized communication network capable of withstanding nuclear strikes. During a podcast about the Trinity report, Vallée posed a thought-provoking question regarding the reported crash: “Is that an accident, or a gift?”

In January 2023, the New York Times announced that Vallée’s Trinity report has initiated a Congressional inquiry:

> "Thanks to a new congressional spending bill, UFO enthusiasts may consider 1945 as the start of a new era. An amendment within this year’s $858 billion National Defense Authorization Act, which funds the Defense Department’s annual budget, mandates the department to review historical documents related to unidentified aerial phenomena — the government’s term for UFOs — dating back to 1945."

> "That year, according to one account, a large, avocado-shaped object crashed into a communication tower in a patch of New Mexico desert now known as the Trinity Site, where the world’s first atomic bomb was detonated that July."

Christopher Mellon, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, referred to Vallée’s Trinity report as:

> "A compelling reason to believe that our government is hiding physical evidence of alien technology."

Mellon was reportedly the original source of the Pentagon-verified UFO videos for the famous 2017 New York Times article and has connections to Tom Delonge’s To the Stars Academy alongside various officials from the CIA, NASA, and defense contractors.

In a 2022 article in The Debrief, Mellon asserted that Los Alamos (where Oppenheimer developed the Trinity bomb) was a primary site for UFO activity:

> "Consider the following quote from a memo sent by the Director of Security at Los Alamos National Labs to Brigadier General Joseph Carroll: > > 'The frequency of unexplained aerial phenomena in the New Mexico area is such that an organized plan for reporting these observations should be established…. Observers include scientists, Special Agents of the Office of Special Investigation, USAF and airline pilots, military personnel, Los Alamos security inspectors, and many others whose reliability is unquestioned…'"

However, few mainstream scientists were willing to make this connection. A notable exception was Herman Oberth, a pioneer of modern rocketry who mentored Wernher von Braun. He wrote an extensive analysis concluding:

> "It is my thesis that flying saucers are real and that they are spaceships from another solar system. I have no doubt that these objects are interplanetary craft of some sort…"

While Christopher Mellon is a leading advocate for UFO disclosure, he is also the great-grandson of capitalist magnate William Larimer Mellon, founder of Gulf Oil.

In an unusual twist, one of William Larimer Mellon’s grandsons played a significant role in Tim Leary’s psychedelic movement. The New York Times reported in 1974:

> "Jury deliberations are set to resume tomorrow in a three-month-old, multimillion-dollar drug case involving William Mellon Hitchcock, an heir to the Gulf Oil fortune, as a key Government witness against three former associates… The three are accused of orchestrating a global conspiracy to manufacture and distribute LSD on a large scale, in collaboration with the Hell’s Angels and Dr. Timothy Leary’s Brotherhood of Eternal Love as their distributors…"

> "Mr. Hitchcock, a 34-year-old millionaire, recounted to the jurors his extensive friendship with the defendants and detailed his involvement in the drug manufacturing scheme, stating that the four had spent significant time together at his estate in Millbrook, N.Y. This estate was where Dr. Leary, a former Harvard professor, founded his drug commune in the early 1960s."

The realms of the psychoactive and the supernatural are often intertwined. However, what is the scientific truth behind their remarkable insights?
