Chapter 1: The Anticipation Surrounding Google's Foldable
The buzz around Google's foldable smartphone has been a rollercoaster ride, with rumors of its cancellation being swiftly debunked. Currently, it appears that the Pixel foldable is progressing well, and Google is gearing up for a launch. However, the exact timeline remains uncertain. Interestingly, there’s new speculation regarding what this device might be called.
How About Notepad?
Recent reports from 9to5Google suggest that the new name for Google's foldable could be the Pixel Notepad. Previously, it was simply referred to as the Pixel Fold, but there were also other contenders like "Logbook." Personally, I find "Pixel Fold" to be a more appealing choice, perhaps simply because it has been the name we've become accustomed to.
Form Factor Similar to Oppo Find N
As we delve into the design, it seems that the Google foldable is more aligned with the compact structure of the Oppo Find N than with the larger Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. This could indicate that the Pixel foldable will be more portable than initially assumed. Originally anticipated to have a screen size of 7.6 inches, new information suggests it may actually feature a 7.1-inch display. The Oppo Find N, when folded, is comparable in size to the iPhone 13 Mini, making it a more user-friendly option compared to the bulkier Z Fold 3. In my experience with the Z Flip 3, a compact design is definitely the way to go.
Our First Word On Pricing
Pricing for foldable devices remains on the higher side due to their novelty. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 has set a benchmark with a price tag of $999, one of the most affordable for foldables. Even the Galaxy Fold 3 saw a price drop compared to its predecessor, coming in at $1,799. According to 9to5Google, the Pixel Notepad is expected to be priced even lower than the Z Fold 3, which is quite remarkable for a first-generation device. It seems that Google is ready to unveil this foldable phone soon!
Availability Concerns
However, availability could pose a challenge due to the ongoing chip shortage. The device may initially launch in the United States before becoming available globally. While these details are still speculative, the foldable is expected to be powered by the Google Tensor chip, found in the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, along with a camera system similar to that of the Pixel 5.
Overall, I’m genuinely excited about the potential launch of the Pixel foldable. If it becomes a reality, I look forward to reviewing it and sharing my insights!
