Chapter 1 Understanding Our Cravings
The distinction between blogs and books may not resonate with everyone, yet it is a reality that many find hard to digest.
"The issue with indulging in junk food is its delightful taste!" — Janette Barber
With the rise of online publishing, numerous newspaper editors and columnists have transitioned to blogging and digital writing. Research indicates that our taste buds yearn for a quick fix of junk food approximately 11 times a day, often peaking at night. In those moments, a fresh salad or a vegetable smoothie is the last thing on our minds; instead, we seek immediate satisfaction, craving that quick rush of dopamine. I’m certainly no exception, as our bodies are wired for such experiences.
This phenomenon mirrors the structure of our brains as well; we look for quick dopamine hits even in our reading materials. Headlines such as:

While books provide nourishing meals for the mind, blogs satisfy our immediate hunger for energy and gratification. Many insightful articles encapsulate profound stories and life lessons in under 1,000 words, taking just five minutes to read. However, this quick consumption is akin to finishing a romantic dinner in mere moments.
Although a writer may invest countless hours crafting a piece, a reader may only skim it in a few minutes, missing the depth and richness of the subject. I firmly believe in dedicating time to books, allowing myself to immerse in the author’s world, page by page, and absorbing the narrative over days or even weeks.
That said, I do indulge in blogs daily. However, I never consider skipping a substantial meal (book reading) for a delightful snack (blog).
