Initially, I perceived writing as a talent reserved for seasoned authors and journalists. Although I aspired to write, I hesitated for a long time, believing that one needed to master the craft or hold a degree in literature to begin. How misguided I was! I am incredibly grateful that I took the plunge into writing on Medium in May 2023. Ten months later, I have crafted 28 stories, and my perspective on writing has evolved tremendously.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the inspiring writers on Medium who share their journeys, triumphs, and setbacks. Their stories are truly motivating and encourage me to persevere.

Now, I've come to realize that, much like in various aspects of life, the key to mastering writing is consistent practice. Writing itself is an exhilarating endeavor! Once you discover your passion for it, it's hard to stop.

Moreover, writing has proven to be one of the best habits I've adopted, positively impacting numerous facets of my life.

Reducing Overthinking Through Writing

Writing serves as an effective antidote to overthinking. I often find myself caught in a cycle of excessive contemplation and analysis regarding various situations and the consequences of my actions. Interestingly, while making significant life or business decisions comes easily to me, I tend to overanalyze trivial matters that lack substantial impact.

Overthinking is a common struggle for many, and if you identify as an overthinker, you understand how challenging it can be to escape that mental loop. Writing has been a game-changer for me in this regard. It enhances my cognitive clarity. When I put pen to paper—or rather, fingers to keyboard—I am compelled to organize my thoughts and ideas. This process allows me to clarify my understanding and pinpoint any inconsistencies in my reasoning, rather than getting stuck in a cycle of indecision.

Writing is a powerful catalyst for unleashing our innate creativity. Since I began writing regularly, I've noticed a significant boost in my creative thinking. Finding topics to write about no longer poses a challenge, which was one of my biggest fears when I first started. I worried that generating new story ideas would be daunting and resource-intensive. Fortunately, that hasn't been the case. Additionally, I've found that brainstorming ideas for other areas of my life has become easier. Writing aids me in discovering new opportunities and innovative solutions to problems, enhancing my overall life experience. Instead of depleting my resources, it replenishes them.

I've also discovered that writing effectively reduces stress and promotes relaxation, contributing to improved mental health. Crafting a story feels akin to meditation. My focus shifts from my internal thoughts to the narrative I'm creating, allowing me to immerse myself in it from start to finish. Thus, completing a story in one sitting is crucial for me.

I genuinely relish the act of writing. It appears that developing a writing habit is one of the best choices one can make, as it enhances one's life in numerous ways. Perhaps this is the essence of all genuine art?
