Understanding Your Medium Job Title: A Path to Success

Chapter 1: Defining Your Medium Job Title
Identifying your position within the Medium community is essential for achieving your aspirations.
"Establishing goals is the initial step in transforming the unseen into the seen." — Tony Robbins
This statement is undeniably true! Without clearly defined goals, we risk wandering aimlessly in uncertainty, lacking both direction and purpose. Such a situation could lead to a life filled with dissatisfaction.
Within the Medium platform, many of us find joy in writing. This space serves as a supportive network where we connect through our writing, reading, and interactions.
If you’re not yet a member, feel free to continue reading.
Having explored articles about Medium, you might have come across the notion that success on this platform is a marathon, not a sprint. If this concept is new to you, it’s crucial to understand that Medium isn’t a quick route to wealth. While it offers fantastic features for its users, substantial financial gains are unlikely in the short term.
This brief article aims to assist you in:
- Clarifying your objectives on Medium — your Medium "Job Title"
- Mapping a strategy to achieve your goals
What Does Your Medium Job Title Mean?
Your job title on Medium isn’t determined by your membership level.
Instead, it reflects your aspirations from the platform.
The initial phase of any goal-setting journey involves recognizing what you aim to accomplish. Your goals may evolve, but starting with a clear vision is crucial. Acknowledging that your objectives can develop over time is commendable.
In my case, I began with modest monetary expectations. My primary desire was to connect with fellow readers and writers, ultimately seeking an audience for my novel in progress.
Change is a natural part of life, and Medium is no exception.
I have been rewarded with increased views, reads, follows, subscriptions, and even compensation for my efforts.
Naturally, I’ve begun to view Medium as a viable avenue for supplementary income.
After spending a few weeks on Medium, my perspective shifted, as detailed in my article: Four Medium Job Titles.
The Hobbyist: These creative individuals are not focused on monetary gain. They write to engage and connect with others, preferring to share their thoughts rather than journal privately.
The Side Hustler: These motivated individuals strive to immerse themselves in Medium as much as their schedules permit. They seek to earn a bit of extra money from their writing efforts, often without specific goals or routines. They fit Medium into their lives as best they can and appreciate any earnings that help cover the cost of a premium membership and more.
The Part-timer: These dedicated writers aim to establish Medium as a regular income source. They understand the platform's limitations but expect to earn triple digits monthly. They usually have structured goals and routines, recognizing that increased effort leads to greater rewards.
The Elite: This small group (approximately 6%) consists of seasoned writers who consistently earn four-figure monthly incomes. They are well-versed in the platform's intricacies and often provide valuable advice to the community. Many users aspire to achieve the Elite status.

Pathway to Your Goals
Numerous articles outline strategies for achieving your objectives, and I have contributed to this discourse as well.
However, the key takeaway is simple: commit.
Commit to elevating your status.
If your goal is to become a Side Hustler, consider subscribing to one of the premium memberships — $5 or $15 monthly. Aim to earn enough to cover this expense each month. I firmly believe that my decision to join the FOM membership significantly contributed to my swift progress.
If you aspire to be a Part-timer but find that your current efforts yield only double-digit returns, allocate more time to your Medium activities. Engage more deeply, write more frequently, and plan your content strategically.
For those aiming to reach Elite status, patience is essential. Remember, success on Medium is a long-term endeavor. With perseverance, growth is achievable. Stay optimistic and don’t lose hope.
