“Next!” called out the event organizer as you stepped onto the stage to present your brief personal essay titled “What You Find Impactful.” As you began to speak, negative thoughts flooded your mind, and a wave of anxiety constricted your throat. Upon finishing, you glanced at your colleagues, searching their expressions for validation.
You observed a mix of reactions: some appeared uninterested, others engaged, some determined, while a few seemed lost in thought. Your main concern was clear: “I hope they think I performed well.” Although the spotlight beamed brightly in your eyes, it paled in comparison to the overwhelming pressure of others’ judgments.

For much of my life, I've grappled with the fear of being judged. From dreading performance reviews at work to receiving critiques on college assignments, I have continually navigated the precarious balance of avoiding disapproval while being haunted by my own standards. My insights stem from psychology, personal experiences, and reflections on this common struggle.

In today’s context, it can manifest in issues like seeking validation, diminished empathy, and low self-esteem.
