Reflecting on My Future Self: A Letter to 49-Year-Old Me

Chapter 1: The Journey of Self-Discovery
Dear Future Michele,
In five years, I’ll be approaching the milestone of 50—wow, that feels significant! It may sound like quite a leap, but let me take a moment to write to you, my future self.
This letter aims to remind you of the commitments you’ve made. I sincerely hope that you remain dedicated to sobriety. Seriously, don't let me down! If you stumble, I’ll be there to give you a reality check.
Assuming you’re still on the right path, I trust that you’ve matured and solidified your recovery, embracing life fully. This thought alone brings joy to my heart.
Have you discovered your true purpose yet? I hope you’re still ignited by your passions: sobriety, writing, reading, cooking, and cherishing time with family. Life is filled with incredible experiences, so remember—there’s nothing worthwhile at the bottom of a bottle!
By now, you may have become a published author. What an achievement! I’m so proud of you! I can hardly wait to dive into your book, or better yet, to start writing it myself.
So tell me, where did you find yourself? Was it through self-reflection? It seems simple, yet it’s profound. You’ve embraced your feelings and put in the effort to evolve into a better version of yourself.
By this time, Mia and Kate will have embarked on their own journeys, and I hope you've adjusted well to your new normal. I envision you exploring the world as a digital nomad, perhaps finally fulfilling your dream of traveling across the U.S. in a motorhome.
I hope you’ve ventured abroad, experiencing diverse cultures and cuisines. Most importantly, I wish you happiness and a life overflowing with love. Nature continues to be your refuge, so savor those beautiful moments, and never take them for granted.
Gratitude should remain a constant in your life.
This is my vision for you, and I genuinely believe it’s attainable if you stay on course. While some aspirations may seem grand, it’s vital to view yourself positively and not dwell on negativity.
Here’s to fulfilling all your dreams and discovering your life’s purpose. Wishing you all the best!
With love,
Young Michele
