Chapter 1: Breaking Free from the Weekend Mentality
For as long as I can remember, a particular phrase has echoed on the radio: "Only 2 days until the weekend." It became a mantra repeated week after week, month after month. Each time I heard it, I felt a shiver down my spine and instinctively turned the radio off. I resented the notion that life revolves around Friday night festivities and Sunday recoveries. Life holds so much more significance than that.
When I entered university, I fell into a routine of partying and late nights, all under the guise of "studying." I had a three-year window to explore and make mistakes while still being somewhat on track. By the end of my first year, the thrill of constant partying had worn off. There’s only so often you can dance to the same tunes, sip the same drinks, and engage in drunken conversations before yearning for something more meaningful.
By my third year, my priorities shifted entirely; I focused on landing a job and acing my exams. Achieving both filled me with joy. That summer, I indulged in comfort food and binge-watched television, justifying it as my final chance to enjoy myself before stepping into the working world.
Chapter 2: Redefining Work
I often heard this phrase from older generations: “Everybody hates work; that’s why it’s called work.” Initially, I found it hard to accept. Surely, one could find enjoyment in their career! I was determined not to subscribe to that belief. Surprisingly, over the past few years, I’ve discovered a genuine love for my work and an income that exceeds my expectations.
Striving for Purpose
For a long time, I cloaked myself in excuses. I delayed starting my business because I was studying. I postponed my dreams during my graduate scheme, convincing myself I needed to savor my summer. Throughout those three years, I continuously told myself that life was too hectic to begin my entrepreneurial journey.
The truth is, there will never be a perfect moment; you must create that time by making sacrifices. Right now, for instance, it’s 6:30 AM, and I’m choosing to write rather than stay cozy in bed. That’s the price of pursuing your dreams.
A Typical Tuesday Morning
When I think of a Tuesday at 11 AM, it seems as ordinary as it gets. There are no Monday blues, no weekend anticipation—just a routine day. Yet, this normalcy presents an opportunity to evaluate your happiness. How content are you on a typical Tuesday morning?
Over the past six years, my focus has been on optimizing for this moment, and I’m grateful I backed myself three years ago, putting an end to my excuses. Today, I live the life I’ve always envisioned, and you can too.
