# Unlocking Intuition: A Pathway to Creativity and Business Success

Chapter 1: Understanding Intuition
When I mention that I dedicated 18 months to studying intuition at a prominent institution in the United States, the reactions I receive are often filled with disbelief and perplexity.
Traditionally, Western society has elevated logic and analytical thinking to a pedestal. Our educational framework reinforces this ideology, often prioritizing a singular type of intelligence—left-brain thinking that emphasizes logical reasoning and sequential thought. For over a century, individuals who excelled in logic and analytical skills frequently enjoyed financial rewards and were highly sought after in both professional and academic settings, provided they possessed basic communication abilities. In fact, a lack of communication skills could sometimes be overlooked if one’s intelligence was deemed beneficial to society.
Recently, a new form of intelligence, termed "emotional intelligence" by Peter Salovey and John D. Mayer, has gained recognition. This concept refers to the ability to recognize and understand one’s own emotions and those of others, using this awareness to inform thoughts and actions. But what if another form of intelligence, yet to be acknowledged in the business realm, exists?
People often inquire, “How do you accomplish so much?” They also ask how my life transformed so significantly in the past four years since completing my program. Responding to this can be challenging, as the language we use often falls short in explaining the non-linear experiences I’ve had since immersing myself in the study of intuition.
As Albert Einstein famously noted, “I get my best ideas in the shower.” Could it be that our intuition—characterized by a non-linear and expansive consciousness—is the origin of groundbreaking and creative ideas?
Linear thinking relies heavily on past experiences, data, and established patterns to project future outcomes. This approach, grounded in historical data, is restricted by existing frameworks and resources. In contrast, there exists a distinction between mere knowledge and the deeper, instinctual wisdom we can tap into. What if there were methods to uncover innovative ideas akin to the breakthroughs achieved by visionaries like Edison and Tesla?
Nikola Tesla stated, “But instinct is something which transcends knowledge. We have, undoubtedly, certain finer fibers that enable us to perceive truths when logical deduction, or any other willful effort of the brain, is futile.”
In an article for Psychology Today, Francis P. Cholle describes intuition as “a gut feeling or hunch that emerges suddenly in our awareness, enabling us to know something without analytical reasoning. It serves as a bridge between our conscious and subconscious minds, as well as between instinct and rational thought.”
Just like other forms of intelligence, intuition strengthens with practice. While we may have a baseline level of analytical and emotional intelligence, we can also expand our intuitive capabilities through dedication and effort.
Although it took me years to cultivate a reliable relationship with my intuition and my unique way of assimilating information, I can share a crucial piece of advice for those eager to enhance their intuitive skills: strive to be as present as possible in each moment.
Many individuals dwell on the past or future, rarely grounding themselves in the present. When discomfort arises, they often find their minds drifting to different times and spaces. To access this expansive consciousness, focus on being fully present. This practice will help you notice subtle bodily sensations and eliminate filters that distort your perception when you are lost in thought. You may begin to identify what expands your feelings of connection and what contracts them.
As Thich Nhat Hanh wisely said, “Be here now.” This principle is fundamental to all intuitive practices and can take years to master.
